For The Love Of Bloopers

I began doing Duke of Hell almost as soon as I got Poser 4. Of course, this means that I began doing Duke of Hell before I learned how to use Poser. I made a million mistakes. Most were just worthless, but some were funny, some were good learning experiences, and some were inspirational - inspiration can come from all sorts of weird places.

Like this:

Look at the light green blotch on the zombie’s neck. The blotch is a glitch in Poser; it’s actually the “neck” of the zombie’s shirt. It’s supposed to be invisible, but if you export the figure out of Poser into Bryce 5 like I do it becomes visible again. It’s easy to fix it, but before I learned how I got the idea for the zombies.
Granted, if you’re doing a website about monsters you’re going to think of zombies sooner or later, but that’s how it happened.

Different article of clothing, essentially the same problem:

I tried to make the skirt slightly transparent, but the geometry inside the skirt, which again should be invisible, became visible. I tried to fix it, but this was the best I could do. I’ve left the picture (in Slaves of the Vampire) just to keep myself humble.

The little blue nightie, by the way, is me trying to be clever; it’s a regular skirt and a bikini top. Why buy a fancy nightgown when you can make one out of the free stuff?

That’s how I developed my “cartoonish” style, by not having the fancy props or materials (or, to be honest, the ability) to do it better.

The vampire’s skin keeps changing color because the default lights in Poser are colored and they’re not in Bryce. I wanted pale and got chalk, then I fixed it and got a normal color. All right, I thought, he’s chalk before he bites and normal after. Doesn’t happen quite that way? All right, I thought, he’s a monster - he changes color.

(This is from Swap Meet Satellite - look at the previous image - he’s green.)

If you’re willing to admit you’re unprofessional you can get away with anything.

I’ve let some bloopers slide in my site. Sometimes it’s just because I do too many images to go back and check and check and fix every stray pixel, sometimes because I just don’t find it in time - but sometimes I want you to see a few of my mistakes, so you can also see how I grow as an artist as I do this.
